Day Six – Written by Pastor Estany Ruiz
Biblical Example: Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego
Prayer Focus: Your Refining

“King Nebuchadnezzar made a gold statue ninety feet tall and nine feet wide and set it up on the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon. Then a herald shouted out, “People of all races and nations and languages, listen to the king’s command! ……..bow to the ground to worship King Nebuchadnezzar’s gold statue. Anyone who refuses to obey will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace.” – Daniel 3:1‭-‬6

The King set up a monument of himself for everyone to bow down, or else they’d have to face death by fire.

“My power”… Nebudcadnezzer was filled with the pride and self-accomplishment that gave him the power to take life at a single command.

There are many things in this world that seem to have the “power” to throw you into a fiery trial:
sickness, disease, loss of finances, fear, doubt, compromise.

Reading further in the story, it says in verses 16-18‬,
“Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.”

The very thing that kept these three Godly men from bowing to society or pressures (or even threats) was their confidence and trust in God.

Their connection and faith in God put them in a unique position of fearlessness. They trusted in God to deliver them from the flames … and they were confident they would see Him soon if He didn’t.

Well, there’s an important distinguishment here: God did not deliver them FROM the flames but He delivered them THROUGH the flames. And, God did more than just deliver them…He actually stepped into the fire with them.

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans‬ ‭8:35, 37-39‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

So if you take anything away from today’s reading, let it be: when faced with a fiery trial, trust in Him…He’s waiting to show you His glory through it.

Biblical Example: The Disciple (Luke 18)
Prayer Focus: Your Faith

“18 A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 19 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. 20 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.’” 21 “All these I have kept since I was a boy,” he said. 22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 23 When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy.”

“28 Peter said to him, “We have left all we had to follow you!” 29 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus said to them, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or sisters or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God 30 will fail to receive many times as much in this age, and in the age to come eternal life”

It’s so easy to look at verses 18-30 of this passage and tell ourselves that we would respond like Peter rather than like the rich ruler.

However, the truth is that, as humans, we can have the tendency to withhold things from God. It takes faith to leave everything behind and follow Jesus like Peter did, but Peter counted the costs and he found Jesus worthy of it all. Peter and the other disciples said “Ok, I’m In” to God when they chose to live their faith as an action (and not just with their speech).

As we spend time in His presence today, let’s first reflect on the faithfulness of God. Let’s remember His promises that He is with us and He is for us, and that He is worthy of our total surrender (not just a partial surrender, or whatever watered down version of surrender we’ve fooled ourselves into thinking is acceptable).

Biblical Example: David (1 Samuel 16)

Prayer Focus: Your Obstacles (Giants)

Verse: 1 Samuel 16:7 “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

While Samuel was looking for someone who “looked” the part to be King, God corrected Samuel in 1 Samuel 16:7. God does not judge by outward appearances; like man. He looks on the inside. Appearance, height, a title, money or even a position, does not reveal the true character, power, or potential of a person.

That idea is further proven when “little,” teenage-boy David faces “HUGE,” manly Goliath. On the outside, to the spectator; it looked as if the fight was rigged. It was almost humorous to watch. There was no way David could defeat a GIANT! At this point in history though, David had matured spiritually. As he stared at this “Giant,” he knew Goliath was a target too big to miss! David knew he was not alone and that God would fight WITH him.

Who (or what) giants are you facing? Viewing these troubles from God’s point of view helps you to put our “giant” problems into perspective. “If God is for you, who can be against you?” God is fighting for you and with you. So with Him; there is no Giant you cannot face, overcome, and conquer!

Biblical Example: Jesus (Luke 22)

Prayer Focus: Your Peace

Today is the start of an exciting spiritual journey, and you are going to experience both the power and grace of God in ways that you never have before! It’s a journey of 21 days, so we are encouraging everyone to personally say, “OK. I’m in.”

Truthfully, this is really a journey that started some 2000 years ago. It was the journey that Christ made to earth, born as a baby — born to preach the Gospel of eternal life to a lost and dying world. He, too, said to the Father on many occasions, “OK. I’m in.”

In fact, one of the most difficult times to reach that conclusion was the night before His crucifixion. Jesus and His disciples had departed to the Mount of Olives — a place where they often visited. Their purpose was to pray, and following His admonition to do so, He walked some distance away from them [the disciples] and began to pray to the Father. A prayer that flowed from a place of deep emotion within.

As the Son of God, there was nothing in His flesh that wanted to face the next few hours. Maybe you have been to that place before: a place of great self-sacrifice that was not necessarily meant for us, but for others. It is a place of emotional turmoil, full of forces within us with opposing views and desires.

Ultimately He prayed, “Not my will, but yours, be done.”

With these words, He was saying to the father, “OK. I’m in.” He was ALL IN for your salvation, for your peace, your deliverance, your victory over death, so much so that He conquered both hell and the grave!

Hebrews 12:2 says, “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

He was [and IS] ALL IN for us; now it’s our time.
